David Arnasungaaq

Inuit Native Artist David Arnasungaaq from Baker Lake

Baker Lake

David Arnasungaaq is the son of internationally-known carver Barnabus Arnasungaaq and his wife Fanny Arngnakit. He was born December 31, 1964 in Qamanit’tuaq, in interior Nunavut. His brother Norman is also a well-known artist from the region, as is his mother, Fanny.

While a prolific carver, David also makes jewelry and draws. His carving style is very reminiscent of his father’s; they both stand out amongst the artists of Baker Lake, bringing vast amounts of emotion with very few etchings. David prefers to carve people more so than animals – a variation from his father’s penchant for Muskox.
