Dennis Bruce

Framed Mother and Child Original Painting by Plains Native Artist Bruce Dennis

Ojibwa Nation

(1961-2000)

Dennis Bruce was born on June 21, 1961 and was a member of the Muskowekwan Band (Saulteaux), part of the Ojibwa Nation, and was originally from Lestock, Saskatchewan. Dennis had no formal art training but earned a reputation as an important up and coming artist. He was self-taught and his main mediums were canvas and paper to create imagery of native themes. The events and people he had encountered influenced his artwork. What set Dennis apart was his extraordinary interplay between his own native roots and a contemporary new age approach. To many galleries dismay, Dennis passed away in the Fall of 2000. His presence and his artwork will be greatly missed.
