Abe Simeonie

Inuit Native Artist Abe Simeonie from Cape Dorset

Cape Dorset

Born on March 22, 1977 in Cape Dorset, Abe Simeonie’s father is Simigak Simeonie who was a carving packer at the Inuit Co-op for 30 years. His mother is Koyou, his uncles are Kanaginak Pootoogook and Ninogiok Pudlat, and his father-in-law is Axangayuk Shaa.

Abe learned to carve by watching Moe Pootoogook, and his favourite subject soon became the Bear. Outside of creating beautiful bear sculptures, Abe loves hunting and being on the land.
