Alariaq Shaa

Inuit Native Artist Alariaq Shaa from Cape Dorset

Cape Dorset

Born in 1978, Alariaq Shaa is the son of internationally-renowned artist, Axangayuk Shaa.  His paternal lineage abounds with accomplished artists; his grandfather, Davidee, both uncles Tukiki and Qavavau Manumie, and his brother Pudlalik.

Alariaq has been greatly influenced in carving style by his acclaimed father, and he takes great care in choosing the serpentine stones that he carves.

His work beautifully illustrates the imagery found in his surrounding environment, and Alariaq clearly demonstrates through skilled execution how much thought and care he infuses into each piece.
