Cape Dorset

Ashevak Tunnillie was born November 2, 1956 in Kadlusivik.  His is the third generation of artists in his family as both his mother, Tayara Pee Tunnillie, and father, Qavaroak Tunnillie, were accomplished carvers. His grandmother, Ikayukta, contributed to the Cape Dorset print collection for many years. His son, Pauloosie, is following in the family tradition.

Recognized for his beautiful imagery of wildlife, Ashevak demonstrates sensitivity and often a humorous touch with the human figure. His sculpture focuses on form and movement, with a conscious interplay of positive and negative space.
