Darrel Amos

Northwest Coast Native Artist Darrel Amos from Haida Nation

Haida Nation

Darrel Amos was a self-taught artist, specializing in original paintings. Born in Masset, Haida Gwaii, he had been painting in the Haida style for over 40 years.

Darrel was a cousin of Fred Davis, and worked with renowned artists such as Gary Minaker-Russ and Jim Edenshaw.

Darrel’s personal trials and life experiences, combined with his artistic vision, encouraged him to create a higher level of art. He says: “I have to be impressed by my work – if I’m not impressed, I know others won’t be.”

Darrel passed away in late 2020.
