Northwest Coast Native Artist Dean Larden from Coast Salish Nation

Coast Salish Nation

Dean Larden is a Coast Salish artist who was born in 1960. He is recognized for his artistic traditional imagery. He works in a variety of mediums, wood carvings, gold and silver jewelry, painting and printmaking.

Dean was recently commissioned by the “Canada Week” committee in Sydney, Australia to create six carvings for sponsors of the event. These carvings are now displayed in the offices of C. P. Airlines, Air Canada, Continental Air, Drake Personnel and Unilever Australia.

Larden is also a fisherman by trade, fishing the West Coast of Vancouver Island for salmon, herring and halibut. He enjoys spending time with his family when he isn’t busy fishing or engraving. His life becomes somewhat hectic, as he has to fill many orders prior to leaving on his fishing trips. Dean’s work is becoming sought after and recognizable as he progresses as a prominent artist.
