Ewan Parker
New Zealand
Ewan Parker currently lives on the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island. He is a remarkable Maori artist and carves both traditional and contemporary works exclusively in New Zealand Jade (Pounamu). His work is unique and instantly recognizable worldwide. He creates a style that is versatile and diverse, ranging from elements such as the traditional detailed Tiki to contemporary renditions of the Koru and Toki.
Carving the Pounamu has special significance for Ewan. He believes that Pounamu absorbs the ‘mana’ or spiritual power of its wearer, and will always yearn to return to its source in the rivers and mountains of New Zealand.
