George Auksaq

Inuit Native Artist George Auksaq from Igloolik / Iglulik

Igloolik / Iglulik

George Auksaq was born in 1963 in Hall Beach and later moved north to Iglulik. The stone from this area is not ideal for polishing, so many artists chose to work in other mediums, such as antler and bone, which George utilizes in his practice. George’s mother was also a carver, working primarily in bone or antler as well. George recently undertook some jewelry maiing courses at the Arctic College in Iglulik; as a result his work is becoming very popular.
