Pangnirtung

1943-2019

Lipa Pitsiulak was born April 21, 1943. He resided in Pangnirtung, but also lived in Igloolik. The focus of his work has been sculpture, drawings and prints.

Lipa, who has spent much of his life on the land, has been the vice-president of the board of directors of the Pangnirtung co-operative. His prints often reflect the old oral tradition of Inuit songs and stories. His father has been quoted as saying:

My son Lipa lives out on the land now. I’m proud that he can look after his family, through hunting, drawing and carving. He’s teaching these skills to his young sons, along with the stories he learned at his father’s knee.”
