Noah Jaw

Inuit Native Artist Noah Jaw from Cape Dorset

Cape Dorset

Noah Jaw was born in 1976 in Cape Dorset, Nunavut. He comes from an extensive family of artists in stone and graphics. His father is Mathew Saviadjuk Jaw, a carver as well as former Mayor of Cape Dorset. Both Noah’s brothers, Kellipalik Jaw and Ricky Jaw, are also carvers. His aunt is graphic artist Geelia Jaw.

Noah’s work is greatly influenced by his father, brothers, and his uncle – renowned carver, Pootoogook Jaw. Each has been influential in developing Noah’s carving skills. Noah Jaw is best known for his ‘Hunters in Kayak” carvings that are strong and clean in design. They often include many ropes of leather and small tools and spears carved from bone and antler.

The artwork of Noah Jaw has been exhibited in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, New York City, and South Korea and Germany.
