Parr Parr

Inuit Native Artist Parr Parr from Cape Dorset

Cape Dorset

Parr Parr was born in Cape Dorset in 1990. He comes from a long line of artists and carvers, which inspired his own artistic interests from a young age. As a child, Parr would help his uncle, Noo Atsiaq, create various bear sculptures. Noo was the one who taught Parr how to use a grinder and file, as well as how to polish his sculptures. He began carving his own sculptures at the young age of fourteen.

When he first started out, Parr’s artwork would depict a variety of subjects, including Bears, Wolves, Arctic Rabbits, and Inukshuks. However, over the past 8 years, he has made birds his subject of choice, as he enjoys capturing the animal’s spirit and range of motion in his sculptures.
