Percy Ellis

Northwest Coast Native Artist Percy Ellis from Haida Nation

Haida Nation

Percy Ellis has resided in his birthplace of Haida Gwaii his whole life.  Beginning at age fifteen with argillite and then progressing on to working with silver and gold, Percy has been carving for over fourteen years.

In 2006 Percy was one of the two apprentices to Ron Wilson (Giitsxaa) working on the 54ft tall T’aanuu Linagaay red cedar Totem pole, one of the six that are proudly displayed at the Haida Heritage Center in Skidegate, BC.  In 2007 Percy apprenticed with Garner Moody on a 30ft length Haida canoe also located at the Haida Heritage Center.

Percy is currently focused on creating custom-designed jewelry in gold and silver, such as rings, bracelets, pendants, and earrings.  Percy is very proud of his heritage and views his art-making as a way of keeping the culture alive.
