Rex Goose (Kangoak)
Born in 1965, Rex Goose now specializes in miniature carvings from ivory, antler, whalebone, and in more recent years white alabaster that was discovered outside of Holman in 1997.
Rex is the son of the late artist William (Bill) Goose, as well as the grandson of artist Agnes Nanogak Goose, both of whom were renowned for their prints and illustrations. Rex has recounted being “overwhelmed” by the amount of people making art around him while he was growing up. Although Rex is recognized more for his carvings, he has been active in the graphic arts himself at Holman since 1978 and his own drawings have been made into prints for annual collections since 1982.
Rex Goose has had two solo exhibitions of his sculpture at Northern Images in Yellowknife in 1994 and 1996.
