Sii Ashoona

Born in 1978, Ashoona is the adopted son of celebrated Inuit carver, Kiawak Ashoona.

Ashoona has developed remarkable skill and versatility watching his well-known father carve and, yet, has evolved a distinct and unusual style. He carves with unwavering precision.

Ashoona – like his late grandfather, Kingwatsiak Ashoona of Cape Dorset – finds peace in working with the malleable stone.

“It’s a way of keeping our culture alive,” says Ashoona.
