Sorosoluto Onalik
Iqaluit
Sorosoluto Onalik (nee Sorosilutuk) was born in the Kimituq camp near Cape Dorset on December 20th, 1943. Her mother, Egevadluq Ragee (1920-1983), was a Cape Dorset graphic artist. She is married to Tommy Onalik, who is an Inuk carver.
Sorosoluto began her artistic career creating drawings for the local co-op at the encouragement of Sheouak Petaulassie, an established Inuk printmaker. They would often walk to the co-op together to pick up paper for their creations. As her career progressed, she also became a talented and prolific carver, depicting wildlife with the elegant naturalism that Cape Dorset carvers are known for. Her carvings, drawings, and prints have been featured in a number of exhibitions, collections, and publications.
