Timila Pitsiulak

Inuit Native Artist Timila Pitsiulak from Cape Dorset

Cape Dorset

Timila Pitsiulak grew up in Cape Dorset and was continuously surrounded by other Inuit artists who inspired him to take up stone carving.

His maternal grandmother, internationally-renowned artist Kenojuak Ashevak (2917-2013) was influential in his decision to create artworks and make a living through his craftsmanship.

His paternal grandfather was notable carver Komoartuk Ashoona, and his adopted father Tim was a well-regarded artist.

Through his own imagination and observations, he enjoys sculpting various animals although he does tend to favour birds above all other subjects.
