Northwest Coast objects play a vital role in native culture and ceremony and continue to flourish today. Appreciated by many for their artistic quality, the objects convey wealth and stature, and therefore strengthen the profound and elaborate echelons of the coastal communities.

Held together by strong beliefs, ancestral belongings are greatly cherished uniting the past with the present. From the intricate and wearable to the spiritual and functional, these objects communicate a compelling visual language displayed through crest figures unveiled in this inspiring exhibition, Box of Treasures.

In capturing and nurturing the imagination, the delicate and sensitive creations evoke a lifelong tradition. Varying in scale and medium the collection emanates remarkable detail in the design and embellishment of local materials. Many of the talented new generation of artists are introduced alongside the master carvers who influenced them. Together they form a complementary collection of superior contemporary works.

We acknowledge all the participating artists for their respect, connection to and preservation of their distinct cultural art form.
