CA$50,000.00Acrylic Paint on Board
Unframed
60 x 36 x 1.75″ (each panel)
60 x 72 x 1.75″ (entire diptych)
“The inspiration to do this painting came about from my wife Trace’s desire to have a large, bold, and somewhat modern piece in our dining room. The idea was borrowed from a commission I did for the City of Vancouver in 2010 [street banners that would hang along Granville to 16th Avenue]…
I like this updated version better [than the commissioned design]. It looks less like a stained-glass window and has more movement. Trace and I enjoyed the painting part, as she painted one side and I the other. Her side is no doubt the cleaner painting.” – Don Yeomans -

“I called this triptych ‘Raven Transforming’ because the design continuously transforms from one medium to another to form a complete Raven design.
This was a fun set to work on – each panel being a completely different medium created a bit of a challenge to keep all of the pieces aligning where they meet. This meant checking several times throughout the process of each panel. I was pleased with the way these came together in the end.” – Trace Yeomans -

Empty Nest
Trace Yeomans
CA$6,000.00Oil paint on Canvas
2022
Unframed
“I started painting this piece a few years ago. The idea came to me while I was sitting and thinking about how quiet it was the day after my youngest child left home. I felt a bit lost.
It was the first of many paintings I did that year. There are many hours of intricate twig detail but at the time, I was relieved to focus my attention on painting rather than being sad and missing my kids. This was one of the most time-consuming oil paintings I have ever attempted and took the longest to complete. Through it, I felt I regained my freedom to be creative and found myself in my art again.
The nest sits empty with complex twigs intertwining with each other. They represent all that I am as a mother intertwined with hope, worry, pride, sadness, and happiness for my kids. I’ve added a ghostly white Haida Raven overlooking the empty nest to represent myself.” – Trace Yeomans

Why an Artist Proof?
The artist proof is often the first proof or set of proofs that the artist “pulls” to ensure that the image is printing to the desired effect. The Artist Proof holds a higher value than a regular edition piece due to its rarity as well as the possibility that they can contain the visual evidence of the artist’s progress. Artist Proofs are typically owned and kept by the artist so they are rarely released.

“I feel that art can have premonitions about the future. The first design was created long before the events of 9/11 and the resulting US war in Afghanistan. Between the action and reaction, I thought about the title that I had given this print and the idea that no retaliation would be unsymmetrical and the decision to declare war was symmetrical or a predictable outcome. No retaliation would be a sign that we were reaching maturity.” – Robert Davidson RCA

“Supernatural Beings is one of two designs that I did based on a discussion with artist/weaver Cheryl Samuel about pushing the design possibilities for robes and aprons. I received feedback from the weavers that it could not be done but also interest from some who were willing to try.” – Robert Davidson
