Description | Haida Nation Wayne Wilson was born in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii on December 12, 1949 located in the northern region of British Columbia. At an early age, Wayne began an apprenticeship with noted Haida artist and teacher, Gordon Cross. He greatly influenced his designing and assisted in developing his metalworking skills, paying particular attention to fine and unique detail. Since the early 1980’s, Wayne has set a distinct style of cutting out the designs he portrays in silver and gold. This highly labour intensive technique has placed his jewelry at a forefront among his peers. Wayne is a well-rounded individual who hunts, fishes and continues his devotion to engrave jewelry. In particular, he dedicates his time to inlaying ivory, abalone shell and semi-precious stoned as a form of embellishment. For this reason his pieces have become sought-after by many collectors of Haida artwork. |
