Description | Coast Salish (Musqueam) Nation Jody Sparrow was born in North Vancouver, BC, in 1970. He is a xʷməθkʷəy̓əm born and raised Coast Salish artist, carver and jeweller. Jody is part of the movement to revive and celebrate Coast Salish art styles in Coast Salish lands, currently passing his knowledge on to his daughter and granddaughter. In addition to being a trained carpenter who received his Red Seal certification in 2005 from the International Trades Association, Jody completed the Native North West Jewelry Arts Program and studied at Emily Carr University. He is most recognized for his work reviving Coast Salish traditional and contemporary canoe and paddle styles but is also well-known for his unique Coast Salish-style jewelry. He continues to carve paddles and make jewelry for local galleries in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
