Darrel Amos is a self-taught artist, specializing in original paintings. Born in Masset, Haida Gwaii, he has been painting in the Haida style for over 40 years.
Darrel is the cousin of Fred Davis, and has worked with renowned artists such as Gary Minaker-Russ and Jim Edenshaw.
Darrel’s personal trials and life experiences, combined with his artistic vision, have encouraged him to create a higher level of art. He says: “I have to be impressed by my work – if I’m not impressed, I know others won’t be.”
This serigraph was produced in recognition of the fact that Art is an artist. One of the names that he has had is “Thlo-kee-tupp” which means Thunderbird. The Thunderbird is presented here with an adze making a wolf.
