Erich currently lives in Port Alberni, though he was born in Campbell River and his ancestry goes back to those from Knight Inlet. He spent part of his childhood in Alberta and Ontario, then moved to Nanaimo and began carving in the early 1990s. Yellow Cedar has always been his preference but he also works with Red Cedar wood. Erich has become known for his various small to medium scale sculptures, including rattles, bowls, small totem poles and talking sticks. In 2006, he also began to study the art of jewelry carving, working with sterling silver and gold, under the guidance of Nuu-chah-nulth artist Gordon Dick. |
