Description | Tsimshian Nation John Alexander was born on January 14th, 1962 in Hazelton, British Columbia near Kispox, off the northern coast of British Columbia. He is a member of the Tsimshian Nation and takes the Frog, a symbol of luck and prosperity, as his family crest. John had the opportunity to apprentice under Don Yeomans and Phil Janze, two prominent artists who teach at a well acclaimed K’san First Nations art school. John began his artistic career through sketching and painting. However, he has progressed onto the art of Gold-smithing. This artist’s unique works maintain traditional designs and dimensional form within a stylized artistic form. John Alexander is one of the many talented First Nation artists who, through his artwork preserves tradition, heritage and cultural background. |
