Aoudla Pudlat

Inuit Native Artist Aoudla Pudlat from Cape Dorset

Cape Dorset

Aoudla Pudlat was born on July 23, 1951 in Cape Dorset and passed away in Baker Lake in 2006. He spent his life in Nunavut and created a legacy for himself through his print works.

In the early 1970s Aoudla began to draw highly stylized bird images – a theme which he concentrated on throughout his career. At that time he also began his apprenticeship in the lithography studio.  As his mastery of the printing process progressed, Aoudla proofed and also editioned many of his own works. He became an accomplished printer, with his chop appearing on many of the lithographs editioned in the Cape Dorset studio. His stepfather is Oshutsiak Pudlat.
